The Northwood Center features unique programming that incorporates everyday living tasks into a daily curriculum.  Our facilities have been developed to simulate an apartment living environment.  A fully functioning kitchen, laundry room, bathroom and living room with computers in each building will enable participants to learn how to live with roommates in an environment that will provide them with the least restrictive structure.

A partial list of topics incorporated into our curriculum for independence includes:

  • Preparation of all meals
  • Organization of Personal Space
  • Laundry
  • Correspondence & Form Filling
  • Social Planning
  • Socialization Skills
  • Social Safety
  • Phone Skills
  • Basic Home Maintenance & Cleaning
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Vocational Site Visits
  • Problem Solving/ Self-advocacy
  • Money Management
    • Budgeting
    • Personal Checking
    • Record keeping
    • Bill Paying
  • Post Office, Library, Public Transportation
  • Shopping
    • Food
    • Clothing

The Northwood Center students take advantage of Camp Northwood’s recreational facilities and programming on a daily basis to ensure ample opportunities for physical activity as well as continued socialization.
