Our 9 key administrators collectively have over 200 Summers of Northwood Experience
A cornerstone of the Northwood program is the dedication of our administrative staff. Almost every administrator began as a cabin counselor and has occupied many roles in their career at Northwood. The combined range of experience for our 9 key administrative staff is over 200 summer seasons at Northwood! Much of Northwood unique social programming has evolved from their experiences working with our unique population of campers at Northwood as well as in various professional capacities in the field.
Tricia Dooley – Assistant Director Camp Northwood – est. 1980
Education: Teacher’s College, The School of Columbia M.Ed Childhood Education
Tricia was hired by Jim Rein in 1980 in the early stages of the Northwood Program. She has served as the Assistant Director since 1989. Her role includes coordinating the Northwood Academics Program as well as programming and office communication with families. Tricia manages the phone schedules as well as out of camp trips and experiences. Over the years she has brought her expertise as a teacher and reading specialist to our academic program. Outside of camp Tricia works in the Bronx as a 1st Grade Teacher, where she focuses on literacy development.
Theodore Davis – Musical Director – est. 1981
Education: Fredonia, B.A. Music, M.S. Education
Ted coordinates the Musical Program at Northwood. Each year he develops the Northwood Musical, working closely with campers and staff both musically and on the stage. Ted also produces a staff show at the end of the summer featuring the oldest group of campers in choral roles. He recently retired from a long career at The Churchill School in NYC as a Music Educator. Ted enjoys spending his time traveling and participates in two separate Flute Ensembles that perform in the NYC area.
Shaun Gagan – Resource Coordinator – est. 1985
Education: MA- School Counseling
Shaun is a Certified NYS School Counselor. He joined the Northwood staff as a counselor in 1985 and has served in multiple roles. Shaun currently coordinates the resource program at Northwood where he provides individualized support for campers in need of quality time. Shaun provides staff training focused on behavior management and communication throughout the summer. Additionally, he is the camp photographer and many of the photos families see on our summer website are taken by his careful eye. Outside of Camp, Shaun works as the K-12 School Counselor for the Belleville Henderson Central School District in Upstate New York.
Lynn Pitta- Director of Food Services – est. 1984
Lynn has been cooking for the Northwood Family for over 30 years. She is known for her pasta sauce and ability to feed a large crowd. Under Lynn’s guidance our dining hall has plentiful fresh fruit and campers eat a balanced diet. Over the years her children have grown up working in the kitchen and on Visiting Day the whole family comes up to help prepare our Family Luncheon. There is always music and life coming from the Camp Kitchen. Lynn previously ran the Food Service Program at Elizabeth Irwin High School, was a Deli Owner and Operator in Punta Gorda, Florida and currently runs a catering business in New Jersey.
Michele Wilborn-Mack – Program Director – est. 1987
Education: MS – Education
Michele has the impossible task of interpreting Upstate New York weather patterns and creating our daily programming schedule. She can flexibly make changes while maintaining the structure that our program offers campers. She began as a cabin counselor in 1987 and currently serves as our Program Director and is a mentor for counselors. Outside of camp, Michele has been a teacher in the NY Metropolitan Area for over 25 years.
Mary Beth Germann – Medical Director – est. 2005
Mary Beth began as our Nurse in 2005. Under her leadership we have computerized the Health Center and she oversees and manages all of the medications that are distributed throughout the summer. Mary Beth has a huge heart, not just for our campers, she is a passionate advocate for animals in shelters. Outside of Camp, Mary Beth works as School Nurse in Central New York.
Jay Tomlinson- Aquatics Director – est. 2007
Education: BCs, Sports Medicine
Certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard, American Red Cross Lifeguard Management, American Red Cross Waterfront Safety
Jay came to Northwood in 2007 as a General Counselor, he became a Team Leader and in 2016 took over operations at the waterfront as the Waterfront Director. Jay coordinates our lifeguards and waterfront staff so that the waterfront is a safe enjoyable space for our campers. Jay is from England where previously worked in a Special Education School. He currently travels the globe returning each summer to anchor at Northwood.
Education: Bank Street College of Education, M.S. General/Special Childhood Education
Rebecca grew up in the Northwood Community and started on staff working in the kitchen/laundry as a teenager. She began work as a counselor in 2009, was a Team Leader, and currently writes and implements the Northwood Social Skills Curriculum. She works closely with Shaun as a resource staff member for campers who need additional support. Rebecca also works with counselor teams throughout the summer to develop communication strategies and cabin routines. Outside of Camp, Rebecca is a Head Teacher at the Stephen Gaynor School, an independent school in NYC for students with learning differences.
John Wasmund – Assistant Director Northwood Center – est. 2011
Education: Hobart and William Smith Colleges, M.A.T. Education
John came to Northwood while in undergraduate school at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. He worked as a counselor in cabins for 6 years and became the Assistant Director of the Northwood Center in 2017. John got his Masters in Secondary Education from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. He works as a High School History Teacher and Social Studies Team Leader at East Bronx Academy for the Future in the South Bronx. John implements the Northwood Social Skills program at the Northwood Center, in addition to overseeing the Center Academics Program.
